Looking for an article on safe buying? It's over here!

Working with clients can be challenging, and there are inherent risks to operating a business online. Though we hope it never happens, Commiss.io takes steps to help you remain safe when selling. We're here to support both sellers and buyers every day of the year. Here are some of the ways we work to keep you safe:

Fraud and Abuse Prevention

In the background we and our payment processors perform automated checks to make sure everything looks good. When getting ready to process payments, our payment processor runs through checks to ensure that the risk is minimal for you.

So what happens if at any of these points our systems, or those of our payment processors, indicate something might be amiss?

For minor to moderate risk situations, an automatic follow-up is triggered and our staff will look into the situation. The project will continue normally. If it looks like a false positive, we'll close it out. Otherwise, we may reach out to you or the client to make sure everything is alright.

For severe risk situations, we may block the project from being created or the payment from being processed. Our payment processor may also block certain high risk payments from going through. We'll reach out to you and the client in such a case to make sure that everything looks good before proceeding.

We take these steps to reduce the chances of chargebacks or other refund requests that may impact your sales.

Creator and Client Ratings

At the conclusion of every project, the client will be asked to give you a rating. You'll also have the opportunity to rate your client. Ratings can encapsulate a number of factors about your client, such as friendliness, responsiveness, and ease to work with.

When a client requests a new project, you'll see their rating under the project description.

Patterns of low ratings also give us the opportunity to reach out and offer assistance when needed. In cases where an creator or buyer receives a number of low ratings, we will attempt to offer guidance to improve their ratings in future projects. If the pattern does not improve, we may limit the individual's ability to engage in future projects.

Asset Protection

When submitting final assets, they are only available in preview mode until the client approves the finished work. If they request additional changes and reject the final assets, then they will no longer have access to them.

If the project is cancelled by any party for whatever reason, the client loses all license to retain or use any assets. They also lose access to download any of the final assets.

Cancellation Policies

Commiss.io has a number of Cancellation Policies you can select from when creating your listings. You can select one that matches your needs when selling your art.

If the client cancels the project after you've begun work, or after you've submitted the completed assets, a cancellation fee will be charged to them per your cancellation policy. They will also lose access to the project assets as outlined above.

If you need to cancel the project for whatever reason, we will refund the client in full per the standard cancellation policies. We've found that this aligns with client expectations and the way almost all creators handle cancellations on their end.

Dispute Resolution

If there's ever an issue between you and your client, you can contact our support team at any time. We always recommend you try to solve the issue yourselves first, but if that failed or you're not comfortable, we're always available.

When resolving disputes, Commiss.io staff will (with your permission) fully review the situation and help mediate the dispute between you and the client. If a mutually agreeable outcome isn't possible, we'll work to resolve the issue in a way that is fair to all parties in the circumstances.

Privacy and Security

We take privacy and security very seriously. Your payment information will not be shared with the creator. Commiss.io staff have very limited access and cannot see your full payment information in any case. You can read more in our Privacy Statement. Your legal name is collected for legal compliance reasons, but is not made public by default.

We take steps to ensure that your interactions with Commiss.io are secure. All pages on Commiss.io are secured using TLS and strong cyphers. In other words, your data is encrypted in transit between your computer and our servers.

When adding your payment details, your information is shared with Stripe, our payment processor. They help process millions of payments for major companies including Lyft and Instacart. Our payment processor sends Commiss.io a token that represents your payment, and that's all we see.

Stripe is a Level 1 PCI compliant processor, which is a fancy way of saying they meet the top of industry standards for credit/debit card security. They're pretty awesome.
